After the associate dentist treatment plans a surgical procedure that requires special attention, the patient will then be offered an appointment with Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS for consult and/or treatment.

Bad news is he can't do your checkup/cleaning anymore. Good news is he will be standing by if someone in your family needs a tough extraction or root canal one day.

Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS (and all the dentists in our dental office) are only general dentists. You should always get second opinion or expert level care from specialist dentists such as endodontist, oral surgeon, periodontist, prosthodontist, orthodontist and/or pedodontist to get the highest level of care. Specialist dentists are far superior to general dentist in every way. They have amazing training that is much more advanced than a general dentist. Furthermore, they have experience that is light years ahead of any general dentist's experience with these complicated procedures. Thus, even though Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS and other general dentists perform extractions, root canals and implants we can never hope to have the same level of expertise as a formally trained specialist dentist. Thus, we recommend Dr. Charles Fields Periodontist, Dr. Pedram Yahgmaie Oral Surgeon, Brian A. Mahler, DDS, Prosthodontist, Dr. Lan Tran Orthodontist, Dr. Alan Wonhee Lee, DDS, MS endodontist, etc.

8 Myths Debunked About Sedation Dentistry in Reston VA

Published August 7th, 2024 by RTC Dental

Demystify sedation dentistry in Reston, VA with our blog '8 Myths Debunked About Sedation Dentistry in Reston VA'.

Think sedation dentistry is just a luxury for the overly nervous? Or perhaps you’ve heard it’s risky and only for complex surgeries. Let’s clear the air and debunk some of the common myths surrounding sedation dentistry in Reston VA.

1. Sedation Dentistry is Only for Major Surgeries

This myth couldn’t be further from the truth. Sedation dentistry in Reston VA is not just for complex dental surgeries but can be a great option for various dental procedures, from routine cleanings to fillings. It’s about ensuring comfort and reducing anxiety for patients of all ages. By creating a more relaxing environment, dentists can perform procedures efficiently while patients remain comfortable and calm throughout their visit.

2. Sedation is Unsafe and Risky

Safety concerns are natural, but sedation in dentistry has a strong track record of safety when administered by qualified professionals. Reston VA dentists are highly trained in sedation techniques and follow stringent safety protocols to ensure patients’ well-being. From careful patient selection to monitoring during sedation, every step is taken to minimize risks. Plus, modern sedation methods are carefully tailored to individual needs, making adverse reactions extremely rare.

3. Sedation Means You’ll Be Unconscious

Many people believe sedation equals unconsciousness, but that’s a misconception. There are different levels of sedation, and not all involve being fully asleep. ‘Conscious sedation’ allows you to be awake but in a deeply relaxed state, often with little memory of the procedure afterwards. This flexibility in sedation levels means that patients in Reston VA can select an option that makes them comfortable, without necessarily being unconscious.

4. Recovery from Sedation Takes Days

The belief that sedation dentistry requires an extended recovery period is another myth that needs dispelling. The truth is, recovery varies depending on the type of sedation used. Many patients in Reston VA who undergo light to moderate sedation can resume their normal activities the same day. While it’s important to follow your dentist’s advice and maybe take it easy for a few hours post-procedure, the recovery process is often much quicker than expected.

5. Sedation Dentistry is Exclusively for Adults

Contrary to this common belief, sedation dentistry is not just for adults. It can be particularly beneficial for children who feel anxious about dental visits or who may have trouble staying still during procedures. Pediatric dentists in Reston VA are skilled in administering sedation safely to children, ensuring a positive dental experience that can help reduce fear and anxiety about future visits.

6. You Can’t Afford Sedation Dentistry

Worried about the costs? Let’s debunk the myth that sedation dentistry is unaffordable. While it’s true that there’s an additional cost, many dental practices in Reston VA offer various payment plans and financing options to make it accessible. Moreover, considering the benefits of a more comfortable and anxiety-free dental experience, many find it to be worth the investment. Always check with your dentist about the options available to you.

7. All Dentists Offering Sedation are the Same

Thinking all dentists offering sedation are the same can lead to overlooking the importance of expertise and experience. Dentists in Reston VA who provide sedation dentistry undergo specialized training and certification to ensure the highest safety standards. It’s essential to choose a dentist not just based on their ability to offer sedation, but on their experience, patient reviews, and approach to patient care.

8. Sedation Dentistry Can’t Help with Dental Anxiety

One of the most significant benefits of sedation dentistry is specifically its ability to help those with dental anxiety. By alleviating the fear and stress associated with dental procedures, sedation can make regular dental care a routine rather than a challenge. Many patients in Reston VA have found that sedation dentistry allows them to receive essential dental care comfortably, ultimately improving their overall oral health and reducing their anxiety over time.
